Getting back on the original topic (well, sort of, its a flame about a Steam-related product), Half-Life 2 is shitting me.
It and source were both fucking up, not loading properly or crashing out to windows and so forth. So I uninstalled them both and reinstalled them.
That was 3 hours ago. The install went fine, its the updating thats shitting me. They started at about 48% updated each, and 3 hours later, Source has moved to 64%, while HL2 is still at 52%. Cmon! Let me download faster ffs! an average of like 30kbps is not cutting it Steam! I know you can go up to much higher than that! So do it ffs!!!

Bah, steam makes no sense. It takes 3 hours to do 15% on 1 of the 2 games, then about 30 mins later, both are ready to play. Oh well, at least its done. This better fix the problem.
EDIT: After testing, it seems the problem is still there... *Sigh* time to upgrade soon i guess...

There are other options besides upgrading. Although you could just upgrade then setup ur current computer as a server at my house?

Tempting, of course, for that to work, you'd have to pay me the cost of upgrading my computer, and reimbursing me for the value of my current setup.

U sure they're not giving you the money for other reasons???
I've had lotsa shit with steam in the past, from as simple as nothing being displayed in the updates and news windows when it starts, to restarting the computer when it feels like it. Once i'm past steam however, and into the games, like Half-life 2, I have never ever had a hiccup. =)
I'm sure you would have checked, Irid, but are there any hardware/driver conflicts? And are there particular points where it ctd's or is it jsut random?

The most common point is in HL2 when ive gone new game or load game and its loading the game, or in source when im connecting to a server. It also hapens in HL2 when im loading a new area, or even when its loading the main menu, before i've done anything. I usually get the same error each time, and i tried to take a screeny of it to lost on teh steam forums about it but the screent didnt come out...

Well if theres an actual error rather than just randomly quiting out you should be able to find a solution easy enough.

I should say htat if i get the error then im lucky, cause i get my computer back. HL2 especially just likes to lock the computer up, forceing me to reset, even the three-fingered salute wont work.
