I'm back ^_^ Again, lol.
I'm looking at getting a new PC, about $1200-1500, to replace this 5 y/o thing. Problem is I haven't looked at hardware much in a while, I had never even heard of socket AM2 untill I looked at the AMD CPUs just now, lol. So I'm looking for a little help =P

Intel Conroe 6400 is all you need to know.
Dont listen to these AMD fanboys.

Thats actually not correct. The new intels are good.. but unless you got for the E6600 the price v performance is the same. The technology for the new intel boards is still new and buggy aswell as expensive. I'm getting an am2 processor and motherboard this week. The Amd X2 4600+ performs on par with the intel E6400 and the motherboards are much cheaper.
This is what i'd go for. All prices from ITESTATE
Amd Athlon X2 4600+ - $351 AMD AM2 S940 ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe (nF570 SLi/PCI-e/S3G/ GLan/1394/8Ch) - $233 DDR2 Corsair-Performance 2GB (2x1024) 675MHz XMS2 TWINX2 MATCHED - $275
Now thats $859 for those 3 parts. From there you get wateva video card you like. I'm getting a 256mb Leadtek Nvidia 7600GT for $233.
Are you going to be using parts out of your old computer. Eg hard drives and dvd drives and case?

Yeah, Josh speaks the truth. I don't know about the Intel's, but what Josh says sounds fairly correct.
Nice upgrade too. Although my BFGTech 7900GT(OC) is the ultimate... that 7600 will be great too.

The place Arach told me to use a while back, lol. Computer Alliance, these are Gamedude's prices now, but I think Arach said a while back not to use them or something? $50 cheaper with a better CPU and a bigger HDD than Computer Alliance. I took out Windows XP cause if 64 is fucked I may aswell just use the one I have now.

Just get it from MSY and get someone to ship it to you!

TAILS! *pounces* Yeah but then if something breaks and I need to send it back I have to wait for it to get to them, then for them to send one back...with Computer Alliance or Gamedude I just have to drive over the other side of bris. It was really just to see if I had the components right, I may end up getting it from somewhere closer.

You'll prob find that even if it did stuff up it would be easier and cheaper to buy it again from MSY then send it back to other stores

Hmm, they actually have a couple of QLD stores. NFI where Slacks Creek and Morningside are, must be the other side of bris.
Asus M2N-SLI-Deluxe - 215 AM2 Dual Core 4200+ - 267 1G Kit(2x512) Corsair/Kingston (667 5300) - 195 256MB 7600GT Leadtek - 233 Maxtor 16M SATA II 320G - 130 19” Benq FP91G+-8ms DVI - 293 Thermaltake Soprano - 125 OEM MS Beige / Black Keyboard +Mouse - 39 (only an extra dollar to get the mouse) 16x Pioneer 111D Silver / Black oem - 51
Total - $1548
There's only a couple of dollars difference between the Leadtek and ASUS 7600GT cards, any preferance between the 2?
The 19” Benq FP92E 8ms is only $12 more than the 19” Benq FP91G+-8ms DVI, go with the FP92E or stay with the FP91G?

I was looking at the MSY price list again I saw in Cases -
SHAW 550w (B or W) Super Sonata - $45
Is that just the PSU that you have to buy ontop of
Thermaltake Soprano - $125
Or is the SHAW thing another case?

Post by -Vi2- IriDiuM on Sept 21, 2006 15:04:24 GMT 10
My case came with a CPU, but i'd buy a new one anyway, cause most cases just come with a 300W PSU or something, no where near enough. Mine did, and i asked the comp store to change it for me, so they put the new PSU in teh case and discounted $20 or something. And they gave me the 300W PSU too! Ahh Centrecom...

Post by [OXSC] ShadowWolf on Sept 21, 2006 17:06:38 GMT 10
Well I think the Soprano comes with a 430W PSU. I was just wondering what that SHAW thing is, seems too cheap to be a case with a PSU that big. Maybe it's the price to upgrade to that size PSU?
|
|
|
Post by -Vi2- IriDiuM on Sept 21, 2006 21:41:53 GMT 10
No, it'd just be a psu, without a case.

lmao, 255W? Good luck.
Your PC (if its the one with the AMD 4200+ that I scrolled up and saw) is similar to mine. I have a 560W PSU.
Do I need it? No. Will 400W work? Probably. But I'd go with 450W just to be sure, if possible. My case came with a 400W PSU as well, and I swapped it for this one immediately.

I checked the manufacturer's site and it says it comes with a 430W not a 400W, so the site I was looking at must have been wrong.
