If any of you out there are looking to buy computer parts and thinking of getting them from gamedude. Dont.
Sadly enough for myself I dont have too much of a choice because they seem to have what I want (or so their price lists say) and they are in brissy, which is the closest. (We do have a Discshop in rocky, but it never has anything in stock)
I have purchased many things from gamedude in the past, and I dont think the process has ever gone smoothly.
My first purchase was a geforce 4. I was upgrading from a geforce2. About a week after I had ordered I received a call from gamedude saying the card I wanted wasnt in stock, and they had another card with "the same specs" that I could get instead. It was about $10 cheaper as well, so I went with it.
What I received was a piece of shit scum of the barrel albatron geforce4, that had 64 mb of SD RAM. SD! the old slow shit! c'mon, same specs my ass, i think i initially ordered a Legend brand Geforce4 card that had good ram.
Anyway, considering it was my 1st dealing with them I though that we may have just gotten off on the wrong foot, so i let it slide.
Since then I've ordered a couple mobo's, a couple cpu's, and some other minor things. I managed to acutally get what I asked for, even though they seem to take 2-4 weeks to actually get it to me. 3-7 working days my fucking ass.
Except for 1 cpu tho, i asked for a northwood and they gave me a prescott, I let it slide.
Now for my recent beef, as you all know. in the 1st week of JANUARY my mobo blew up. I dont know why, it just did, it wasnt overheating in any obvious places, it was idling at the time even. regardless it exploded and little bits and all flew off the motherboard, it was quite spectacular. Until i realised I didnt have a working computer...
Anyway I called gamedude to see how i go about getting a replacement. Heres a stupid part. The guy on the other end goes "With motherboards, burning out isnt covered under warranty." so I go "Ummm well, what else goes wrong with a motherboard?" The guy is silent, no answer. The asshole prolly thinks I've been mucking around with overclocking or something, but doesnt say it. I havent, its a 3ghz for christ sake, why would I need to overclock?!?
Anyway, i get the info off him that I need to send the mobo in anyway, because they seriously cant deny me the chance when i have done nothing wrong. I pack up the mobo, in its original box with all cables and everything that I recieved with it in the first place.
Anyway i send it to them, about a week later, i get a phonecall saying that it is infact burnt out. OMG I KNEW THAT. anyway, they go "if we find out that you have damaged the mobo there will be a $25 service fee." I say ok, because I know i havent done anything wrong.
I hear nothing for the next week.
I call them on week 3, "Hows my motherboard going", "We're going to have to send it to the manufacturer", I say "Ok" while I'm trying to think why its taken so long to take that step.... anyway.
I call them again in week 4, no one knows whats happening.
I call them again in week 5, nothing.
I call them again (notice how they never call me?) in week 6, a replacement for my motherboard is back in the shop and they will send it to me asap.
I call them in week 7, somehow the mobo is in the fucking PICKUP BOX, for me to come get it. Oh yeah? I'm going to drive from rocky to brisbane to pick up the mobo.. uh huh... even though they are supposed to send it to me. The guy i'm talking to really has no idea about anything, especially how it got into the pickup box, he assures me he'll get it sorted.
I call again in week 8, I complain that this shit has gone for 2 months, the guy says "it will be sent this week, you'll have it soon"
I call again at the end of week 8. just to make sure. Nothing has changed. it still isnt sent. nothing is happening.
I call on mon 28th of feb, start of week 9. still isnt sent. guy assures me "it will be sent this week, you'll have it soon" so i say "thats exactly what the guy last week said, I want you to track it down and make sure it gets sent asap." Guy says ok.
I call on thurs, 3rd of feb, NOTHING HAS CHANGED. I attempt to use my jedi mind powers to make the head of the guy i'm talking to explode like in the end of the new resident evil movie. Nothing happens, i dont hear any gurgling or strangled cries.. my hopes are dashed. I throw away my "become a jedi with only 5 mins a day" workout set.
I call monday 7th, this week... week 10. its still in their shop. OMFG WHF IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS?!? DO YOU KNOW HOW TO POST?
I seriously consider driving down there to hack them up with a rusty spoon and mail them to singapore to give them an active demonstration of posting something.
I ring on tuesday. OMFG..... ITS NOT IN THEIR SHOP?!?! I laugh over the phone to the guy, because i know in my head that it hasnt been sent... its just lost. The guy assures me it has been sent, i will receive it in a few days. I end the conversation with "So this is that last time i should have to call you? YES? GOOD!" and hangup.
I dont really know how long things take to be sent COD, so i check the post office wednesday. nothing. I go home and weep.
Today i drop in at dads... well.. I check his mailbox.. OMG the litle yellow slip is in there!!! ITS ARRIVED!! oh happy days. I immediately drive to the post office and claim it.
I get charged the $25 service fee even though the manufacturer believes that I did nothing wrong.. hence why they replaced it. FUCKING GAMEDUDE.
I come home all giddy and excited... i'm so happy i almost forget the passionate night that Shadow has promised me.
I open the box. I find lots of packing cardboard. I sort through packing cardboard... I eventually find a motherboard... an thats all. No cables, no manual, no nothing. NOTHING.
Even though its past their open hours for the service dept, I call them anyway. I'm fucking pissed off.
I call and explain my problem to the guy. He knows nothing and keeps repeating "I really have no idea why that would happen" the first 5 words of that sentence would do just as well.
He cant do anyhing because their dept is closing (after hours and all)
He says to call back tomorrow. I'll do just that. I'll call back, and ask for management. I will complain. I will make him send me all the cables and he'd better be paying for them.
That is the end of my story. If you want I will update on how the convo with the manager goes tomorrow.
I wouldnt be surprised if they were keeping the brand new mobo and selling it, and sending out the 2nd hand ones they have in stock to ppl like me. I know Home Delivered Computers here in rocky do that.
