After alot of artical reading/talking to ppl, come up with this -
Gigabyte 965P-DS4 Core 2 Duo E6400 1G Kit(2x512) Kingston (667 5300) 256MB 7900GT Gigabyte Maxtor 16M SATA II 320G 19” Chimei CMV-938D 5ms Wide OEM MS Keyboard LG GSA-H10N (DVD RW) Soprano
I've dropped the CPU from E6600 down to E6400 to up the 7600GT to a 7900GT for the same overall price. What do you think of it? lol

Get 1 stick of 1gb instead of 2 sticks of 512mb, so you can upgrade more (and easier) later.
But yeah, moving the CPU down to improve the video card was a good move. Try and get BFGTech for the video card brand. Good brand (my brand, and it works fantastically).

If I go with 1 1gb stick I loose having it dual channel, the mobo has 4 RAM slots anyway, so upgrading to 2gb when I upgrade to Vista will be no problem. Wouldn't touch Vista till after SP1 though, lol.

Cant you just get that
1G Kit / 2G Kit Corsair DDR2 667 5300 $173 / $332
Its not that expensive for the massive increase it would provide.

If you've got the extra $150 or so, i would definately recommend the extra gig of ram. I only got 1 gig with my new comp, thinking i would be fine. After like 2 weeks i went and got another gig cause games like BF2 were still chuggy, and i found out that even though i had an awesome vid card (same as what you are getting), 1 gig of ram wasnt enough to keep up. Now everything runs awesomely.

Ive had 1 gb for like 2 years now, its pretty much the minimum nowadays.
If I was upgrading id be looking at 3/4 Gb!

Well 1gb is the min for Windows Vista, so you'd want 2 gb to be able to game with it, min, lol.
Yeah, I'll just have to see how much I end up with, if I have the money I'll get 2 1gb sticks instead.

lol, dual channel. I'd much rather be without dual channel if it meant the possibility of upgrading to 2 sets of dual channel / 4gb of ram, when Vista comes out.
How much difference does dual channel actually make? It makes RAM a bit faster and smoother, but how fast do you think it runs when it's all on the one slot? Dual Channel can't be as important as you all make it out to be, and I wouldn't get less than a 1gb slot of ram ever from this point on.
But this shouldn't matter, because you should be getting 2 slots of 1gb RAM for 2gb dual channel anyway.

If your real desperate for cash Id drop the 7900GT back down to a 7600GT and then get 2Gb of RAM.
You will be able to play any game coming out on the 7600GT with that comp and 2Gb of RAM. Actually thinking about it, thats definately what id do because the increase from getting 2Gb of RAM would be more significant than a little better graphics card.

You make a good point, left. I remember that, before I upgraded this computer, the only reason it was able to run Battlefield was because it had 3 sticks of 256 (cheaper than buying 1 stick of 512 back in '01), which was alot of ram back then.
