haha you punces.. I have a corporate edition of xp pro right.. I install that.. I then found a crack program which then sort of reactivates windows once you have it installed.. it then allows you to change the cd key to a sp1 key which is supplied in a text file.. Bingo you have a version of windows that doesnt ask you to activate and you can install the service packs and all updates. The only new thing you need to crack is the windows genuine validation thingy.. but i found a crack for that in about 5 mins.

How i see it. I bought Windows 98. Windows XP is an upgrade. I'm not gonna pay for an upgrade. Micro$oft can go fuck themselves if they think average/low income people are gonna fork out $400 for an operating system every year. And i wouldnt touch XP Home edition.. its like crippleware.

Well, i WOULD post scores... If i could get a version of 3DMark that works. Every copy i've tried either has some sort of corruption in the install process or simply wont open at all. Tried 4 copies from 4 different cources and not 1 worked.

Also Gen, I was thinking of running crappy evaluation copies of Windows 2003... can you supply me with a full version of some kind? I really would appreciate that. But so you see Alan at all... otherwise I dont know how I'd get it off you... unless you want to send a copy in the mail.

Also, in response to this... you're completely correct. XP basically is just an upgrade to 98. They upgraded all the mistakes and errors out of 98 and brought out a far superior version. Sif pay money for that.

i think the bsod were just due to him not updating the bios of the motherboard.. you need to do that for it to support the dual core processor properly.. otherwise i think its only running one core

No, i have updated both the chipset and the bios, no help. Atm, my latest 'theory' is the network drivers. All I have to do is work out how to do that....
And TS has been up all day ala, but you havent been on....

Ok, i think i got the problem nailed down. And as promised, heres teh 3dmark score i finally got around to doing Still seemed to chug har don the cpu tests though... wondering if it was usin both the dual cores or not....

What was the problem?

i dont think 3dmark 06 is designed to utilise dual core is it?

Post by -Vi2- IriDiuM on Apr 3, 2006 11:27:04 GMT 10
Maybe not. All the other tests it breezed through, but on the cpu tests, it scored 0.5 fps and 0.8 fps respectively.... Maybe i'll just have to wait and see if 3DMark 07 supports dual core...

I'll get that when I get home also, assuming you share with me how you solved the PC problem.
And before you update the bios, did you check the readme file to see what the update actually did? If it mentions something about dualcore, I'd best get it too. If not, I won't bother.
Although I was told I had to get newer ASUS drivers for supporting SATA better (apparently it throttles the speed without new drivers) and so would the Nforce drivers cover that? I'll ask on IPGN anyway.
When I get home, I'd better be able to fix this. Although I don't trust your fix too much brenton, since now you're saying random files are corrupting for apparently no reason (ie; your Oblivion saves - hahaha) but what other choice do I have? That corruption was probably unrelated anyway, but that only fills me with more dread that there's even more wrong with these PCs.

Oh are you having the same problem too shay... that is really weird. I always use the nforce drivers with mine and it works fine. I just goto the nvidia website and download the nforce 4 amd drivers. Make sure you uninstall the old onces first though.. then restart.. then cancel any automatic driver installs that windows tries after you restart.. install the new drivers.. restart again and you should be set. The only other reason for so many bsod would be corrup memory modules or that you have put them into the wrong slots. I find it a bit odd that both of you could be getting the same problem.. so it probably is the memory slots. with mine the arent next to each other..
