It wasnt a random corruption of the oblivion saves shay, when i tried to go to a new area when i was playing this morning, the computer took AGES to load the new area, and when it did load, it looked like a vector map of the area, like all screwed up. It also locked up, so i had to Ctrl-Alt-Del to get out of it. When i tried to load it again, it wouldnt load.

Oblivion is very buggy at this point. In some areas the game will crash up to 6 times for me, but i've never had obvious graphics corruption Irid....
But our computers are different so anything can happen.

haha you fool.. punce even..
How did you end up fixing the problem brenton? Or is it still happening? Are your memory modules in the blue slots?

They are in the blue slots now. they were in the black slots, but changing them ove didnt make a difference. And I fixed it by reinstalling the nforce drivers, but not putting on the nVidia firewall and network manager. Seemed to do the trick, and i did it to shays comp last night too, and things looked good for him too.

You dropped the ball there Josh. In fact, you could even say this entire fiasco was entirely your fault.
...
Nah, thanks for trying to help. but yes, mine seems to working fine again. It was obviously something to do with the networking since it was corrupting downloads, BSoD'ing more often when trying to use TeamSpeak or a network resource, and the fact that it had a 'HTTP.sys' error.
The Network Manager and Nvidia Firewall (despite the fact I originally disabled the firewall anyway) seems to be the entire problem (although it could have just been the latest Nforce drivers fixed it... but I'm leaning toward the Network stuff.
Nvidia are apparently kings of putting terribly inclusions with their drivers.
So it seems it wasn't AMD at all Alan. It was Nvidia... a company that you constantly recommend over ATI. Interesting...

Apprently NOT having the Nvidia Network Manager corrupts Oblivion save games instead?

Hmm, if it does, i can either have rarely corrupting oblivion saves... or constant blue screens. I know what i'd pick.

oblivion corrupts its own savegames at times. I've just lost my quicksave and autosave, putting me back by about 8 hours gaming =(

Post by Scruffy Dog on Apr 10, 2006 3:18:31 GMT 10
I save an actual save (not quick or auto) every 1-2 minutes... although I save over whatever is 5th down the list... so I hopefully have more to fall back on in case of corruption.
However I was doing this BEFORE the corrupt saves last time and it didnt help. I now save a few that dont fall into that 5 level overwrite category, and don't get written over.

I only save quick saves so if mine stuffs up I probably wont play it again.

You ONLY quick save? What the hell is wrong with you. You take one wrong turn and get locked in a room with a guy you cant beat, or accidentally kill someone you shouldnt, and theres no way to go back!

Post by LeFtBehinD on Apr 10, 2006 22:27:30 GMT 10
Why would I quicksave in that situation...
"ARGH! holy crap huge monster thing that took off 80% my health by just walking towards me... quick... must... quicksave.... Ahhh there that has assured..... *dead*"

|
|
Post by -Vi2- Arach on Apr 10, 2006 23:20:00 GMT 10
Lol, dont be so critical, there are some situations where you cant quite tell whats going to happen in the next few minutes, or maybe you had jsut done something wrong but the reaction hasn't occured yet, so if you quicksave you might find yourself at a dead end.

Exactly as Arach says. No wonder you don't like these games Alan, you can't imagine that by doing something would somehow cause ill effects moments later.

I dont quicksave every 30 seconds!
More like every 5 min when theres a break in a mission

i have a habit of quicksaving before i talk to every person, before going through any door, and in dungeons; after every fight and almost every corner.
Of course, i hardly ever reload, but constant saving is jsut a habit cause i hate doing things again.

I'm with Arach. I don't just quicksave constantly either, I do actual saves too. I'm starting to quicksave less and less, as normal saves have taken the place of quicksaves. Getting corrupt saves makes you a little obsessive...
