Why are you getting an SLI board? waste of money.
Have you seen any good reviews/graphs of the performance increase of the dual core cpu's acid? I cant seem to find any relavent ones.
And brenton, do you know how much better the 7800 GTX is over the 7800GT cause the GT is $100 less?
And where are you buying from? MSY?

id be getting a 7900gt instead.. its actually faster than the 7800gtx and a bit cheaper too
and i agree with acid i think it was about the dual cores.. not really need but now i think about it oblivion actually utilises dual core cpus so for that i could be good

Hmm, maybe I'll get a 7900gt. I can probably afford one.
Post some sort of benchmarking though, cause why would it be cheaper if it was better?

Lol shay, he's talking about it being cheaper than the 7800gtx. Its still about $600, so its progbably still out of yoiur price range...

I looked it up. It's about $550. I can afford that. Although I can't afford RAM or Hard drives anymore. You're the worst influence Brenton...
Also you fool Alan! You and Josh are working out all these price cuts and stuff for brenton when Im the original one who wanted the upgrade. Sif keep me out of the loop and help the punce instead!!! Write whatever you discussed in here, since I can read it during breaks you fools!
Why do you need a bigger psu than 450? I severely doubt that's the case, and if it's true surely no more than 500... but I still doubt needing more than 450.
Good idea for the motherboard though. Having SLI is cool, but I'm sure when I upgrade next I wont want to buy the same card again. I'll want a better one, and I wont be able to buy 2. So kinda pointless.

i suggest atleast 550 psu....if ur gonna get a 7900 then get sli board so that later on u can get sli 7900....i still say fuck the dual core off....dont really need hdds unless uve got like 40gb...and depends how much ram u got at the moment

SLI is a waste of money.
And ive read around that running a system on the lastest nVidia 7xxx series then u need at least 500W, now since brenton refuses to actually ask any comp shops when he rings up I think he is just gonna try it with his 480W. It might be ok but I cant say for certain. And if you want SLI anytime in the future, for gods no why unless you want to waste money, then you'll definately need like 550W.
And shay MSY dont have any 7900gts for a week, the only close cheap one is CentreCom with a BFG 7900gt for around $576 I think, which comes in 2moro. If I was you shay id just go for a 7600gt for a tiny bit over $300.

na 450 watt + psu will do the job from wat i've read.. u only really need more if your running an sli setup.. sli is good but chances are your not ever gonna buy another card thats the same so its kind of a waste.. one 7900gt is outrageously fast anyways.. so why would u need two

Ill tell you why SLI is pointless.
Because for the cost of getting 2 cards you can buy a better card that performs better than SLI would. SLI is only like a 30% increase in performance and atm its a total waste of money.

I agre entirely. SLI is pointless. It's fancy and good if you're rich and can buy 2 of the latest cards when they first come out... but otherwise pointless. Maybe I will go for the 7600gt then. I can always upgrade the video card later. The only bad thing is chances are I'm not going to have an OPERATING system when I get this PC. $400 for XP Pro let's not forget. Although I'm thinking of doing something dodgy like a Centerlink loan to get a few extra hundred to make up for it. 7600gt won't run Oblivion as well as I'd like though I bet. Not on full graphics Here's the problem with upgrading everything seperately and not trying to find an upgrade box thingy: - I won't get an operating system.
- I haven't factored in stuff like Floppy drives etc.
- I'll have to actually do something to put it together, and it won't have been tested and have a warranty.
Also, the case I wants only has a 450watt power supply which is fairly annoying. Maybe there's a way to get the Antec Sonata 2 without the power supply or with a bigger one?

Kinda want service packs and upgrades... never letting your PC come near mine...

Post by acid on Mar 28, 2006 14:23:36 GMT 10
u can get service packs and upgrades via other methods...trust me...you do not need to pay $400 for a workable xp edition.....i have installed the same xp several times on this pc...and on about 4 other pcs...for the cost of nothing...all using the same key....and each computer has SP2 and all the windows updates available.....
and u dont need a floppy drive
and u can usually get cases minus the psu...so that u can put ur own psu in

Few things,
firstly if ur buying all the hardware you can get XP Pro for $200.
And if you have a 4000+ etc cpu and a 7600gt it will run oblivion fine on high graphics, I think we are getting a little carried away with brenton getting the 7900gt.
The parts will come with the same warranty than if they made it themselves. You just save the $100 install fee. All parts come with manufactor's 1yr or in some cases 3yrs warranty.
And the 450W might be enough, you'll need to do some more research on it. Talk to someone that has a card from the 7xxx series. Maybe it will say on brentons Card when he gets it 2moro what they recommend. Cause if you use it and the psu blows and takes the graphics card with it, I doubt that will be covered by warranty because your using inefficient parts.
I think that answers everything...

Ill tell you why SLI is pointless. Because for the cost of getting 2 cards you can buy a better card that performs better than SLI would. SLI is only like a 30% increase in performance and atm its a total waste of money. Not quite. If you buy a SLI board and a good vid card at one point, later you can get the 2nd vid card as an upgrade, and cause its later the vid card will be cheaper than what it originally was. Without sli, to get an upgrade you have to replace the vid card altogether, with a brand new vid card that would be much more expensive. So, not including the millionaires that can afford sli with 2 of the latest vid cards out, getting sli to have the option of future upgrade isnt a bad idea at all.

well
1. if you wait to long the same card may no longer be available
2. the performance increase isnt that great. So If u buy one 7600gt now, then wait 2 years and buy another 7600gt for cheap your probably not gonna be happy with the performance increase it gives you.

Post by neVyn on Mar 28, 2006 15:50:00 GMT 10
yer thats the thing.. depends on how long you wait.. and from wat ive seen the cost to buy 2 cards of mid range price you might aswell get one high end card which will perform at the same speed
